Duties of Officers

President

For three years, as President-elect, President, and Past President:

  1. Attend meetings of the Council. Typically, this entails traveling to attend two meetings during the Annual Meeting and one mid-year meeting, as well as participating meetings by conference call.
  2. Attend meetings of the Executive Committee conference calls.
  3. Respond to issues as they arise.

During the year of service as President-elect:

  1. Serve as Chair of the Annual Meeting Committee. Responsibilities for this are outlined in the Charter of the Annual Meeting Committee.
  2. Learn the about the activities of the Society, the duties of the President, and plan for Presidential initiatives.

During the year of service as President:

  1. Preside over the meetings of the Council and Executive Committee, until the President-elect assumes office (after the Tuesday Business meeting) as required by the Bylaws and Charter of the Executive Committee.
  2. Maintain liaison with the Secretariat regarding Society needs and emerging issues.
  3. Undertake Presidential initiatives, as desired.
  4. Write four President’s columns for RISK Newsletter.
  5. Appoint committee heads according to the Bylaws and tradition.
  6. Maintain contact with the members and leaders of regional organizations and specialty groups, as appropriate.

During the year of service as Past President: serve as Chair of the Publications Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee. Responsibilities for this are outlined in the Charter of the Publication Committee.

During the year after service as Past President: serve as Chair of Nominating Committee. Responsibilities for this are outlined in the Charter of the Nominating Committee.

During the following year: serve as Chair of the Awards Committee. Responsibilities for this are outlined in the Charter of the Awards Committee.

Secretary

  1. Attend meetings of the Council and serve as a member of the Executive Committee. Typically, this entails attending two meetings during the Annual Meeting and on mid-year, and participating in Council and Executive Committee conference calls.
  2. Serve as the Society’s Historian and manage the Society’s archives.
  3. Maintain responsibility for preparation and posting of the Minutes of Council meetings.
  4. Ensure annual consideration of Bylaws amendments.
  5. Oversee annual and special elections processes.

Treasurer

  1. Attend meetings of the Council and serve as a member of the Executive Committee. Typically, this entails attending two meetings during the Annual Meeting and on mid-year, and participating in Council and Committee conference calls.
  2. Chair the Finance Committee. Responsibilities for this are outlined in the Charter of the Finance Committee.
  3. Train the Treasurer-elect and remain a member of the Council as Past-Treasurer.

Councilors

For three years of service:

  1. Attend meetings of the Council. Typically, this entails attending two meetings during the Annual Meeting and on mid-year, and participating in Council and Committee conference calls.
  2. Respond to issues as they arise.
  3. Serve as Chair or Liaison of one or more Society committees, as appointed by the President.
