Society for Risk Analysis
The Society for Risk Analysis is pleased to hold its Annual Meeting at the Renaissance
Harborplace Hotel. With world-class facilities and a diverse range of historical
and cultural attractions, the Baltimore/Washington area is always a favorite
meeting location.
The
theme of this year's meeting is "Bridging Risk Divides". The meeting will include
links among aspects of risk analysis (e.g., risk assessment, risk management,
and risk communication); risk sectors (e.g., academia, business, government,
and non-profit); risk disciplines (e.g., toxicology, epidemiology, engineering,
economics, law, psychology); and "haves" and "have-nots" (e.g. developing and
developed world, different demographic groups).
The entire SRA annual meeting schedule, including unedited abstracts, is now on-line. If you submitted an abstract, use the search function to find your name, the type of presentation you will be giving, and the timing. You will also find registration and hotel information below.
Use this year's annual conference to network for job opportunities for risk professionals! This year, the SRA will sponsor Job Link to help risk professionals find career opportunities and prospective employers meet qualified applicants.
Are you looking to hire a qualified risk professional in the near future? Submit job descriptions to SRA for full-time, part-time, post-doc, or fellowship positions to be displayed at the Annual Meeting's Job Link table. Applicants will be able to review these job descriptions and submit resumes on site. You will also be able to review the resumes submitted by interested professionals. Please submit your job descriptions to Mike Johnson (mjohnson@burkinc.com) at SRA Headquarters by November 17th for inclusion in the JobLink binder prior to the meeting.
Position descriptions will be available at the Job Link table during the Annual Meeting. Posted positions will include full-time, part-time, post-doc, and fellowship opportunities. Review job descriptions and submit your CV or resume for review at the Annual Meeting. Employers will review submitted resumes and use the Annual Meeting as an opportunity to hold preliminary meetings with qualified applicants. You may also submit your resume prior to the meeting to be included in a resume binder for employers to review at the Job Link table. Email your resume to Mike Johnson (mjohnson@burkinc.com) by November 17th for inclusion in the JobLink binder prior to the meeting. If you would rather submit your resume anonymously, please contact Mike Johnson for arrangements. Be sure to bring extra copies of your resume with you to the meeting! E-mail Henry Willis (hwillis@rand.org) or Mike Johnson (mjohnson@burkinc.com) for further information.
Attend the last session on Wednesday, December 10 (3:30pm 5:00pm) and you will be eligible to win a terrific benefit. One attendee will be selected at random from each of the nine sessions and receive either a refund on 2003 Annual Meeting registration fees or a full credit toward 2004 Annual Meeting fees. This is at least a $400 value, and is not available in stores!
What are your chances of winning? Get out those mechanical pencils and do the math. Attend a session with 19 others and your risk of winning is 5 x 10-2! Attend with just nine others and face a probability of 1 x 10-1. Are those unreasonable risks, or what? Make your travel plans now to stay for the entire Annual Meeting, and you may go home a winner!
On Tuesday, December 9 at 6:30 pm, there will be a reception for DC, Maryland and Virginia SRA members, sponsored by the SRA National Capital Area Chapter. Please come by to meet the organizing committee for the chapter that was revived in 2003. In 2003, we held quarterly seminars and we'd like to do much more. Come by and say hello, and let us know what other activities and programs you'd like to see the DC Area SRA Chapter undertake.
